Silver would be too soft and nowhere near resistant enough if it were worked alone, so it is alloyed with other metals to give perfect malleability.

Bliss uses only Sterling Silver, also known as 925/000, because 92.5% of the alloy is silver, while the rest is a blend of other suitable metals.

Rhodium plating: a surface treatment that perfectly coats the silver with the finest layer of rhodium (a metal from the platinum group) to increase its shine and resistance to abrasion and oxidation.

Burnishing: a surface treatment that darkens the metal. This does not increase its resistance to abrasion or oxidation.

Silver is subject to oxidation, in other words a chemical reaction with oxygen that creates a dark tarnish that dulls its colour and shine.

In general, we recommend not allowing silver jewels to come into contact with detergents, fragrances, creams, chlorine or sulphuric water precisely to avoid the production of oxidation. Even perspiration, depending on the body’s pH, may help to accelerate this process.

Oxidation however only occurs on the surface, it does not alter the quality of the product and can easily be removed with a specific silver cleaner.
